Marc Siegner is a senior Canadian artist based in Edmonton, Alberta. He has focused most of his artistic practice within printmaking, but has recently extended that to include drawing, painting, photography, video, and installation components. His recent work to be featured in his solo show at the Kelowna Art Gallery stems from visits he has made to China. Beginning in 2009, Siegner has made four trips to Beijing and has documented a small traditional neighbourhood there beyond the city’s fifth ring road, called Fei Jia Cun, which is threatened by urban development. Gallery goers will enter a multi-media installation in the exhibition space that will include footage of residents speaking, and images of their day-to-day lives. The multivalent aspect to the work, and the multiple portals presented by Siegner into the world of the residents of Fei Jia Cun make for a rich and multi-layered visitor experience.

Opening reception, Friday, July 4, 2014, 7 to 9 pm.
Artist’s talk at 7 pm.
This is a free event, open to members and guests by invitation.
