Rose Braun: Requiem

November 5, 2011 to January 8, 2012

Kelowna-based artist Rose Braun has created an installation of two-dimensional works in mixed-media drawing and painting exploring the notions of death and personal loss and mourning. Using both representational means and visual metaphor, Braun’s work is expressive and evocative. Images of children – which a viewer readily associates with innocence and hope – along with depictions of adults in various pairings and relationships will be the focus in this new body of work. Most images come in pairs and the titles of the works refer to twins. Many viewers will have the famous Diane Arbus photograph of twins come to mind, and when that passes, their thoughts can turn to consider notions of mirroring, and the erasure that would occur with the loss of one’s twin.
