Wackem Sackem: Hockey + Art

Wackem Sackem

May 21 to May 31  “Held Over” until June 21st.
Thomas A. Budd Gallery + The Art Lab

This has been “Held Over” until June 21. (and then a week later on June 27 a BIGGER exhibition opens with more players, and more pieces)

Wackem Sackem is a hard-hitting pop-up art experience that brings Canada’s national game to life right in front of visitors. Artist Glenn Clark’s sculptural paintings are mounted on floor stands so that viewers encounter them face-to-face, eye-to-eye, and skate-to-shoe. Penticton-based Clark has a long history with the game as both a player and an artist. His four loving tributes to hockey offer the perfect balance of humour and nostalgia that visitors of all ages can appreciate. Afterwards, be sure to get your game on with one of our art activities in The Art Lab.

Activities To Do: Pose with our life-size goalie and snap a selfie. Sketch your own portrait to add to the mural of fans we are creating from visitor portraits who cheer on the game from the stands. At the tabletop station, design your own paper hockey jersey or craft a paper goalie mask to take home. See you on the ice!

When asked what was important in my life, hockey or art?  It was an unexpected question; they were becoming intertwined. Many of my best friends were met at the rink, it was the team guys that helped build my studio twenty years ago. I knew that as one passion declined with age the other would carry on, and that the answer leaned towards Art. Art is life, hockey is subject matter. Both are fun to do.”
