Art Activity: Sculpture
This tour will examine the work of Roland Samuel. Students will have the opportunity to explore the theme of social exclusion through the lens of the marginalized Igbo community in Nigeria and Samuel’s personal experiences growing up as an Igbo child. Samuel uses found objects to create sculptures that symbolize the discarded and overlooked. Samuels’s work aims to empower those who are silenced and marginalized by giving them a voice and shedding light on the impact this has.
Students will follow this tour by creating their own sculpture echoing the themes in the exhibition.
In-Person School Tours:
Cost: $6 per student
Tour time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Capacity: Up to 30 students
Virtual School Tours:
Cost per tour: $65.00 flat rate
Tour time: 45 minutes
Capacity: Up to 40 participants
PLEASE NOTE:
All school tours are booked online. Once your online form has been submitted you will receive an email confirmation within 5 business days. Tours are not booked until a date and time slot have been confirmed via email by Kelowna Art Gallery staff. All requests will be handled on a first come, first serve basis.
We require 48 hours notice should you need to cancel your tour. A fee of $45 will be required for any cancellations after this time.
Payment: We will require the exact number of students on the day of the field trip and will email an invoice to your school within two weeks following the field trip.
Exhibition dates may be subject to change. If this occurs, you will be contacted ahead of time and provided with alternate tour options.
