In Fentanyl Fields

In Fentanyl Fields explores loss and remembrance through a powerful mixed-media installation. A field of silk poppies and poppy pods invites reflection on the toll of the opioid crisis and pervasive reach of addiction. A handwritten poem, inspired by In Flanders Fields written by John McCrae in 1915, acts as a backdrop for the installation, echoing the emotional weight of lives lost, yet leaves room for quiet contemplation and hope. This work is an expression of healing, moving beyond anger to a more nuanced understanding of grief and survival.

Asana Hughes is an interdisciplinary artist from Coldstream, BC, who has walked a path of creativity throughout every stage of life he can remember. He is currently in his final year of studies toward a B.F.A. in Visual Arts with a Minor in Art History at UBC Okanagan. Through his work, Hughes aims to discuss some fundamental aspects of being, the journey inward, and the patterns of nature. He is deeply influenced by Yogic and Buddhist philosophy and meditation practices, as well as Western Esotericism, his Celtic heritage, and an amateur interest in vortex mathematics.
