Diapositive

Julia Pearson
February to July 16, 2023

Julia Pearson’s interdisciplinary practice is featured in their new exhibition Diapositive, which merges three artistic modes of inquiry: photography, serigraphy, and installation. This experimental work reflects the artist’s journey traversing self-identification through concepts of gender expression. By using props, clothing, and site-specific photography, Julia creates self-portraits that are reproduced and multiplied through silkscreen printmaking. This art marking process allows for exploration of the body through the power of image repetition, while addressing our societal relationships with popular culture and media. Pearson hopes their practice can pave a way for others to explore and redefine their own identity.

Raised and residing in West Kelowna, emerging artist Julia Pearson works in various media including screen printing, photography, and installation art. Pearson is currently attending the University of British Columbia and plans to complete their Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in May 2023.
