Summer Teen Programs

Teen Friday Art Series | Supplies Included

This summer the gallery is once again offering our popular Teen Friday Art Series. Throughout July and August, youth ages 13 to 17 will have the opportunity to explore and expand their creative practice. Every week, participants will dive into different themes and subjects and they’ll have the chance to experiment using a wide variety of materials. Instructors provide an open and supportive environment for students to learn a variety of techniques and develop their own personal style. Sign up for just one class, or the whole series!

Instructor: Jim Elwood
Dates: July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 11, from 1 to 4 pm
Cost per Friday: $55 ($44 for members)
Cost for the series: $200 ($160 for members)

July 7  |  Character Design
Learn how to get more out of your character designs!  Change shape and proportion to create a more dynamic character that will grab a viewer’s attention.  Learn how to create better poses, add interesting details without taking away from your character, and even learn a bit about creating background settings!

July 14  |  STREET ART
Learn simple 1- and 2-point perspective tricks to depict street scenes in and around the gallery area.  These scenes can be kept as they are, beautiful street scenes, or used as backgrounds for creative expressions from animation to graffiti (graffiti into the drawing not the buildings!)

July 21  |  MORE than Watercolour
Learn basic and more advanced watercolour techniques through technical sheets. Practice, then choose your own individual subject to work with while receiving feedback from the instructor. Watercolour can be combined with graphite and ink to create a mix of drawing and painting.

July 28  |  Bob Ross Day
Take on a Bob Ross painting and learn the tricks of landscape painting in Bob Ross’ trademark style. “Add a little sap green, or a happy little tree, right there.” The cool thing is these painting tips can be applied to any style of acrylic painting.

August 11  |  ROCK THE BLOCK
Learn the techniques and styles needed to carve blocks for printing.  Use a variety of printing techniques to create beautiful and creative limited-edition prints.
