Kelowna-based artist Renay Egami is venturing into textile-related materials and processes for her piece to be installed in our airport art wall space. A long single curtain made up of many letterforms cut from fabric will be displayed hanging from a rod. The letters will form a text, but will also work at an abstract level as pure shapes. Egami wishes to explore the intersections among language, translation, labour, and identity, all within a commemorative form. The artist sees the departures area of the airport where this piece will hang as a kind of in-between place, and she wishes to underline this transient mood with the ethereal quality this work will embody.
