This selection of sculpture from the Kelowna Art Gallery’s permanent collection reflects diverse interpretations of form and space, featuring work by artists known for their innovative use of materials, experimentation with scale and function, and significance in Kelowna’s artistic community. A Sense of Place: Sculpture from the Permanent Collection speaks to the significance of place in shaping our identities, memories, and perceptions of the world around us. Artists have been among those whose observations have helped create a meaningful sense of place, fostering feelings of belonging or connection through their work.
Place, whether that means a memory, a familiar landscape, or a location in which we attach personal significance, remains a vital center of the human experience. The artists selected for this exhibition offer a unique opportunity for visitors to encounter their individual concept of place through a variety of sculptural forms, materials, and styles that range from representational to conceptual.
Artists include Barbara Astman, Leonhard Epp, Denys James, Byron Johnston, Margaret Priest, Richard Prince, Robert Dow Reid, Rosalind Robertson, Peter Woodford-Smith, and Richard Suarez.
