Artist Tour & Talk
with Glenn Clark
Saturday October 17 | 11 am
Thomas A. Budd Gallery
What happens when a lifelong hockey player picks up an angle grinder? Come find out, and talk hockey and art with Glenn Clark. This is a casual walk through Wackem Sackem, a chance to get to know the artist and hear the stories behind the work. Clark cuts his players from sheet metal and paints them almost life-size. Many come from the 1972 series between Canada and the Soviet Union. On the four kinetic works, you pull the handle and the players slash, punch, and save. Anything but score.
Bring your questions, your memories of ’72 and your favourite players. Hockey fans, table hockey champions and the curious are all welcome.
Cost: Included with Admission (Members: Free)
Artist Bio
Born and raised in Kelowna, Glenn Clark holds a Fine Arts diploma with distinction from Okanagan College and a BFA from the University of Calgary. He spent years at the Penticton Art Gallery as preparator, educator and eventually director-curator. Okanagan audiences may know his Elks Hall mural in Penticton, which shows the 1955 Vees at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. His neighbour and blacksmith Mike Turley, taught him the metalwork. Now retired from playing hockey, Clark paints it instead. He works from a studio in Penticton that his hockey teammates helped him build. His friends call it the Clarkademy. “Art is life,” he says. “Hockey is my subject matter.”
