Lou Lynn, Wool Comb, 2016, glass, bronze and steel
Three Governor General Award–winning artists captivate audiences through their mastery of sculpture, tapestry, and ceramics.
Skillful highlights the work of three Governor General Award–winning artists from Western Canada: Lou Lynn, Jane Kidd, and Greg Payce, whose masterful approaches to sculpture, tapestry, and ceramics merge traditional mediums with modern themes. This method affirms the value of handmaking as a vital and contemporary expression of culture, history, and human experience. Each artist creates works that balance technical mastery with conceptual depth and invite reflection on the enduring significance of craft in a digital age. Together, Lynn, Kidd, and Payce demonstrate how skill, concept, and material ingenuity push the boundaries of their craft and continue to shape contemporary art. In this exhibition visitors should expect the unexpected and enjoy a thrilling display of colour, perception and scale.
Organized and circulated by the Kelowna Art Gallery, Skillful will be accompanied by a full-colour publication that further explores the artists’ practices and contributions to contemporary craft.
