Jordan Broadworth: Vital Binaries

Recent Works on Mylar

April 6 to June 16, 2013

Jordan Broadworth is a mid-career Canadian artist who is currently living and working in New York. This solo exhibition will comprise recent works he has created with oil on small sheets of mylar. These are intensely beautiful pieces, all the more so due to their restrained means. They are created through a rigorous process of addition and subtraction, making for an almost industrial looking surface and collection of shapes and patterns. Broadworth neatly avoids the expressive stroke or authorial gesture. The strong colours in each of the works are held in check by his use of lots of black, a constant through the series in the show.

Broadworth has a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an MFA from the University of Guelph, and has been exhibiting his paintings professionally for over twenty years. We look forward to engaging with this work in Kelowna, and considering his pithy comment on the process and tradition of the art form of painting.
