Amy Modahl: Artist Talk + Tour

Artist Amy Modahl will be joined by Julia Prudhomme, whose poem “hellhole” is featured in the Redactions catalogue. They will speak about the work featured in Redactions and about Modahl’s artistic practice.
This event will be a moving tour and talk within the exhibition. It is free and open to the public to attend.
Bios:
Amy Modahl works in painting, drawing, stop-motion animation, and performance. Born in Michigan, she now lives and works in Salmon Arm. She holds an Interdisciplinary MFA in Visual Art from the University of British Columbia, Kelowna, an MA in Applied Linguistics from Northern Arizona University, and a BA in Fine Art, Art History, & Spanish from St. Cloud State in Minnesota. Her work has been shown in several solo and group exhibitions including at the Kelowna Art Gallery, Stride Gallery (Calgary), Vernon Public Art Gallery, and Soo Visual Art Center (Minneapolis, MN), and the Alternator Centre (Kelowna).
Julia Prudhomme (she/her) is a curator, researcher, and artist situated on the tum xula7xw of the sn̓ʕay̓ckstx. She is developing an intersectional feminist curatorial practice focusing on artistic process, experimentation, and enacting a politics of care within arts institutions. In addition to curatorial projects, Julia holds a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of British Columbia (2013). Her artistic practice is often collaborative, working in video and installation, zines and mixtapes, and she has presented this work (inter-)nationally.
Julia has contributed to public art galleries and artist-run centres in numerous capacities for over ten years. She continues this work as a PhD candidate at McMaster University (Ph.D. ABD in Communications, New Media, and Cultural Studies, 2017-present) and Executive Director at Oxygen Art Centre in Nelson, BC (2019-present).
