On the Path to Abstraction

Members’ Exhibition

November 12, 2011 to January 15, 2012

The theme of this year’s members’ show is “abstraction,” and artists were challenged to think about their art in a new way. Abstraction is a term that indicates a departure from imagery in art. This could be removing any references to images whatsoever, or partially altering or reducing images to shapes, forms, etc. With this in mind, artists were asked to explore the idea of abstraction by taking liberties in altering colours, forms, compositional styles, etc. in order to explore the non-representational in art.
