Drawing for Everyone
The focus of this camp will be on imagination and drawing. Students will learn different drawing techniques, and be given the opportunity to explore a variety of drawing supplies, surfaces, and styles! We will also be thinking out of the box, as we explore unusual drawing materials, which may give surprising results.

Tuesday, March 12

Inspired by Nature
Participants will use the great outdoors as inspiration for this class. During a morning sketching trip students will explore the patterns, textures and shapes of nature. Using their sketches as inspiration, they will use printmaking, stenciling, stamping and more to create art in the afternoon.

Wednesday, March 13

Pressing Material
Students will use the printing press to squish, squash, and press materials to create unique art. Participants will learn about many different materials, and forms of printmaking, and have an opportunity to try their hand at techniques used by both traditional and contemporary artists! Each student will leave with an impressive collection of prints.

CREATIVE CARTOONS
Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15
Two-day camp for children ages 9 to 12
Create original and appealing cartoon characters by developing an understanding of basic cartoon-figure proportions, and improving technical drawing skills. During these classes students will learn how to add elements to a character to convey personality, and technically simulate qualities from any inanimate or animate object to create visual appeal in their design. Once the characters have been designed, students will be guided to create an epic poster, or comic book cover with their character as the centerpiece.
Cost for two-day camp: $110 members, $125 non-members

Monday, March 18

Looking at Landscape
It’s time to head outdoors and immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature. The focus of this class will be on painting, and students will explore different ways of seeing the world around them. There will be a variety of painting exercises to get students warmed up, and the class will finish with students creating a completed work of art on canvas.

Tuesday, March 19

Painting Passions
In this class students will learn how to bring their ideas to life through paint. Working with a subject of each student’s choice, they will learn how to build a painting from a sketch, to finished product. Using works of art at the Gallery as inspiration, students will learn how to create dynamic paintings using a variety of paint applications, as well as colours, shapes and more.

Wednesday, March 20

Springin’ Into Sculpture
Explore the world of sculpture using materials such as wire, and wood to create hanging and freestanding sculptures.  This class will also include a field trip to view and discuss the outdoor sculptures in the vicinity of the Gallery.

Thursday, March 21

Mixing it Up
Students will be introduced to a varied approach to art making. We will be introducing different materials, and learning how to combine different media all on one surface. After exploring a few different techniques, students will spend the afternoon working on a mixed-media piece bringing together all the skills they developed over the day.

Friday, March 22

My Masterpiece
Learn to paint like the masters! Students will paint, draw and collage in the style of famous artists such as Picasso, Munch, Monet, Pollock, Magritte, Dali and many more!  Students will be creating their masterpieces on traditional surfaces such as paper and non-traditional surfaces such as flowerpots.
