Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15
Two-day camp for children ages 9 to 12
Create original and appealing cartoon characters by developing an understanding of basic cartoon-figure proportions, and improving technical drawing skills. During these classes students will learn how to add elements to a character to convey personality, and technically simulate qualities from any inanimate or animate object to create visual appeal in their design. Once the characters have been designed, students will be guided to create an epic poster, or comic book cover with their character as the centerpiece.
Cost for two-day camp: $110 members, $125 non-members
Monday, March 18
Looking at Landscape
It’s time to head outdoors and immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature. The focus of this class will be on painting, and students will explore different ways of seeing the world around them. There will be a variety of painting exercises to get students warmed up, and the class will finish with students creating a completed work of art on canvas.
Tuesday, March 19
Painting Passions
In this class students will learn how to bring their ideas to life through paint. Working with a subject of each student’s choice, they will learn how to build a painting from a sketch, to finished product. Using works of art at the Gallery as inspiration, students will learn how to create dynamic paintings using a variety of paint applications, as well as colours, shapes and more.
Wednesday, March 20
Springin’ Into Sculpture
Explore the world of sculpture using materials such as wire, and wood to create hanging and freestanding sculptures. This class will also include a field trip to view and discuss the outdoor sculptures in the vicinity of the Gallery.
