Join artist Joice M. Hall and Nika Collison, Executive Director/Curator of the Haida Gwaii Museum, for a conversation about Hall’s exhibition entitled GWAII HAANAS – Islands and Sacred Sites.
This event is free and open to the public.
Jisgang, Nika Collison, belongs to the Kaayahl Laanas of the Haida Nation. Specializing in historic and contemporary Haida language, art and culture, she’s served as curator for the Haida Gwaii Museum since 2000 and has recently taken on the role of Executive Director. As a senior negotiator for Haida repatriation initiatives, she is privileged to work with her Nation to build reparations with museums, and, to work with her community in the creation of exhibitions, publications and programs both locally and on an international scale.
JOICE M. HALL
A realist painter, Hall spent most of her career based in Calgary before moving to Kelowna in 1999. She studied at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary from 1960 to 1965. She has exhibited her work in galleries across Canada, and in Mexico. In 2010, the Kelowna Art Gallery organized a full-scale survey of Hall’s work, titled Surreal. Real. Ideal: The Art of Joice M. Hall.
