Just Imagine

An exhibition of works by blind and vision impaired artists

January 12 to March 17, 2013

Just Imagine is curated by local artist Ruth Bieber, and brings together the art of four vision-impaired artists. Just Imagine explores what it means to be human, and the multitude of ways in which people see and respond to the world around them. It is meant to provoke people to think beyond typical notions of “seeing” and to consider the potential of creative expression.

Calgary-based artist Bruce Horak is an award-winning, multi-faceted artist who is known for both his work in theatre and visual art. This exhibition will feature over one hundred portraits by Horak from an ongoing project titled The Way I See It. New York-based artist Busser Howell is a painter working in the vein of expressionist abstraction. His most recent work incorporates paint, paper and other materials to create a single, monolithic image that becomes kinetic, with refraction of light on highly textured surfaces. Artist PJ Lockhart, who is from Kelowna, creates multi-media abstract work that incorporates everything from cell phones to hair gel. Eriko Watanabe, from Germany, creates raised line drawings that attempt to capture on paper what she experiences with her senses other than her vision.

Just Imagine has been generously funded by the Vancouver Foundation, and the Central Okanagan Foundation.
