Okanagan Print Triennial 2012

March 31 to June 17, 2012
The Okanagan Print Triennial 2012 is a juried show that is a collaborative effort of the Kelowna Art Gallery, The University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus, and the Vernon Public Art Gallery. It was launched in 2009 at the Vernon Public Art Gallery, and the winner of that show will have a solo exhibition there this spring. At the Kelowna Art Gallery will be new works in printmaking selected from those artists who submitted for inclusion. The show will be accompanied by a full-colour catalogue that will reproduce each piece in the exhibition. The central aim of the triennial is to bring original contemporary work in printmaking from all over North and South America to the Okanagan Valley.
Opening reception
Friday, March 30, 2012, 7 to 9 pm.
This is a free event, open to members and guests, by invitation.
Roundtable
Saturday, March, 31, 1 to 3 pm.
The Okanagan Print Triennial 2012 exposes us to artists from North, Central, and South America and celebrates the global nature of the printmaking community. Join us for a stimulating discussion about both the traditions and contemporary practice of printmaking. This panel will include a discussion about what printmaking is, and the difference between hand-crafted prints versus photographs and digital prints. We will also discuss the relevance of printmaking in the face of many other technologies for making art. Panelists include Briar Craig, Associate Professor UBCO: Printmaking, Photography and Drawing; Lubos Culen, Curator, Vernon Public Art Gallery; and Liz Wylie, Curator, Kelowna Art Gallery; artists on the panel to be announced soon.
