Heather Thomas: Wounded

April 19 to July 13, 2008

Using a wide range of media, Qualicum Beach-based artist Heather Thomas will be creating installations of works in both our Reynolds and Rotary courtyard spaces this spring along the theme of war, armaments, and war injuries. Branching out from a background in printmaking, Thomas also creates three-dimensional works. For her installation here, for example, she will work with arrangements of used crutches that have been wrapped with lead, and cast-lead/wax pieces that read like excavated land mines. Although aesthetically beautiful, Thomas’s work nudges the viewer to consider the horror of the mass production of armaments and weapons.
