Break 2010
Spring Break Art Classes for Kids
March 8–19, 2010
Don’t let your kids be
bored over Spring Break – sign them up for Art Break, and
let their creativity blossom! Children aged 5 to 8 or 8 to 12 can
take part in our Art Break camps Monday to Friday. Activities
will cover painting, sculpture, drawing, mixed media, and
printmaking. Each day will offer something new.

March 8 Breaking the Rules
ages 5-8
Why limit yourself to traditional methods of making art when there
are endless other options! The focus of this class will be on
creativity, experimentation, and having fun. Students will be
introduced to a variety of art materials and techniques, and will
leave with an exciting stack of unique and creative works of art.

March 9 Right-side-up
Up-side-down ages
5-8
In Right-side-up Up-side-down students
will investigate the world of sculpture from a whole new angle.
Participants will explore methods of imprinting, etching, modeling
and plaster bandage casting in order to create exciting structures,
compositions, textures and shapes.
Wednesday,
March 10 Let’s Get Inky! ages
5-8
This class will introduce children to the creative possibilities of
various printmaking techniques. Children will make their own
printing plates and explore relief, drawn and painted monoprinting,
styrofoam block printing, and collograph printing. Concepts such as
foreground/background, linear/curvilinear, and colour mixing will be
introduced, as well as a brief history of the rich and exciting
world of printmaking.

March 11 Drawing on Imagination
ages 5-8
We all have secret worlds of our own that we create in our
imaginations, and in our dreams. A wonderful thing about creating
art is that we can make these worlds real! In this class students
will explore the depths of their imaginations, and then use a
variety of drawing techniques and materials to bring their imaginary
worlds to life.

March 12 Mini-Masters ages
5-8
This class is an opportunity for young artists to create their own
painted masterpieces while referencing important painters of the
past. Concepts such as abstraction/realism, the use of colour for
emotional expression, and foreground/background will be explored.
A variety of creative tools and techniques will be introduced, and
kids will learn that painting involves more than just paint and
brushes.

March 15 Colourful Chaos
ages 8-12
Now
more then ever we have become aware of the importance of taking care
of our environment, and being committed to the three R’s: Reduce,
Re-use and Recycle. Keeping the environment in mind when creating
art is not only good for the planet, but can also lead to new ideas
and to creative materials that we might not normally think to use.
In this class students will be stretching their imaginations and
creativity by turning recycled materials into bold and colourful
works of art.

March 16 Springing into
Sculpture ages
8-12
Springing
into Sculpture will be an exciting look into the
three-dimensional world of sculpture. The class will utilize a
variety of mediums to create a unique creature as well as a
personalized environment for it to inhabit. We will be introducing
techniques such as sculpting, modeling, etching and mono-printing to
create a unique work of art that your child will be proud of.

March 17 Let’s Get
Inky! ages
8-12
This class will
explore the world of stories and images while introducing children
to printmaking techniques, such as monoprinting and block printing.
Students will make their own printing plates for relief printing,
and will unleash their imaginations as they create characters and
abstract images, while learning about monoprinting. This class is an
opportunity for kids to create their own colourful visual stories
while experiencing the inky possibilities of printmaking!

March 18 The Big Draw
ages 8-12
Come
on an adventure into the exciting world of drawing! Students will
begin the day with a variety of drawing exercises such as contour
drawings, blind contour drawings and life drawing. Then they
will have an opportunity to look at a variety of artists’ work,
along with their different styles and drawing techniques. Students
will use these works of art as inspiration, while using a variety of
drawing materials in order to a create unique collection of their
own drawings.

March 19 Making Connections
ages 8-12
We live in a fast-paced world where we connect through e-mail,
facebook and text messages. In this course we are going to slow
down, and look at old-fashioned ways of connecting and communicating
through art and the postal system. Drawing inspiration from the Mail
Art movement in the 70s, students will explore a variety of art
making techniques, and create exciting works of art in this
non-traditional art form.
