Marla O’Brien has worked in the local nonprofit sector for the past 16 years, most recently as the Executive Director of United Way of the Central and South Okanagan, and also formerly with the Okanagan Regional Library and UBC’s Okanagan campus. She is currently on sabbatical to enjoy more time with family and travelling. She has previously served on the board of the Central Okanagan Foundation. Ms. O’Brien was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April 2010, and is currently the Board President.
Derek Sanders is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Business Valuator and works with the Spence Valuation Group in Kelowna providing business valuations and transaction services. He is originally from Vancouver, but moved to Kelowna several years ago. Sanders was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2011, and is currently the Board Treasurer.
Dylana Bloor is a partner with Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. She practices in the areas of commercial litigation and family law. Bloor joined Farris in 2001 and relocated from Vancouver to head up the litigation group in the Kelowna office in 2012. Bloor was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2014.
Clayton Gall is currently employed at RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel as an Investment Counsellor. Gall has over 21 years of experience in the investment and financial services industry, and relocated from Toronto in 2010 to open the Kelowna office of PH&N Investment Services. Gall has been involved in a number of organizations including the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation and the United Way. Gall was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2013, and is currently the Board Vice President.
Fern Helfand is Associate Professor with the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at UBC Okanagan. Helfand is an artist and has been actively involved with exhibiting her works in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Helfand was appointed to the Board in September of 2009.
Joanne McKechnie is retired, and spent her career in the health-care sector. McKechnie has served on a number of Boards, including the Kelowna Women’s Shelter and Rotoplast Canada. McKechnie now pursues her passion for creating glass art. McKechnie was elected to the Board in April of 2013.
Paul Mitchell, Q.C., is a lawyer with Pushor Mitchell LLP. Mitchell has a long history of service to the community, and is a past member of several Boards, including the Board of Governors and Executive of the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C., and UBC Okanagan Faculty of Management Advisory Board. Mitchell was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2013.
Stan Somerville is retired, and worked for the Federal government and in the private sector. Somerville has been actively involved with the visual arts community for over forty years. Somerville was appointed to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in October of 2011.
Joanna Wrzesniewski is a lawyer who has practiced as a solicitor in Kelowna since 2002. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science (Genetics) and holds a Juris Doctor (law degree). Wrzesniewski joined the law firm of Kimmitt & Co. in 2002 and became partner with R. Patrick Kimmitt in 2007. She is now the proprietor of the law firm Kimmitt Wrzesniewski. Wrzesniewski has travelled extensively through the world and speaks Polish, English, French, and Spanish. Her most recent travel was through Vietnam and Cambodia. Wrzesiewski was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2014.
Amy Zurrer is the Marketing Coordinator of Quail’s Gate Winery. Zurrer has experience within the public relations and marketing sectors. Having worked for several museums in Ontario, she brings with her many years of Gallery and Museum experience. Zurrer was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2013, and is currently the Board Secretary.
Sandra Kochan; Cultural Services Manager, is the City of Kelowna board Appointee.

Mary Smith McCulloch was a professor in the Fine Arts Department of Okanagan University College from 1973 to 2000, and continues today as Professor Emeritus at UBC Okanagan. Smith McCulloch previously served on the Kelowna Art Gallery Board during the late 1970s and early 1980s, and is a founding member of the Alternator Art Gallery. Smith McCulloch was re-appointed to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2008, and was the Board’s Vice President. Her term ended in April of 2014.
Laura Myles is a lawyer at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. Myles practices as a solicitor in the areas of corporate and commercial law, real estate, and wills and estates. Myles joined Farris in June of 2009, after completing her articles with the Ministry of the Attorney General in Victoria. In addition to Myles’ involvement with the Kelowna Art Gallery, she is currently the Director-at-Large of the Kelowna Bar Association. Myles was elected to the Board of the Kelowna Art Gallery in April of 2011. She left the Board in April of 2014.
