REDz on Screen 2

Indigenous Media Arts Exhibition
February 3 to March 25, 2007

The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to be a host venue for REDz on Screen2, an exhibition highlighting the strength and diversity of film and video work by Indigenous filmmakers across Canada. In previous years, the focus on this series of film and video brought together by the Indigenous Arts Service Organization, has been on strong and provocative documentaries. For the first time in seven years, the works brought together for REDz on Screen2 features over four hours of strong and provocative dramas and artistic film and video by Nick Azak, Shirley Cheechoo, Zoe Hopkins, Andrew Genaille, Terrance Houle, Jason Krowe and Paul Rickard and Jordan Wheeler.

An installation by Toronto-based multimedia artist Cynthia Lickers-Sage is also featured in REDz on Screen2. Cynthia Lickers-Sage is a Mohawk multimedia artist from Six Nations, Ontario. Her installation focuses on the theme ‘Aboriginal artists, is it the person within, or the colour of their skin’?

REDz on Screen2 has been brought together by the Indigenous Arts Service Organization in partnership with the Okanagan Producers Collective known as the Ullus Collective. The Ullus Collective supports the training and development of Aboriginal video and visual artists and provides a forum for voicing stories, issues and concerns that are not addressed by current mainstream media.
